Beard Transplant Surgery

Full beards have been back in mainstream fashion for the past 10 years and show no signs of disappearing any time soon. While fashion is a priority for some, for others a beard is a culture, also a status symbol which signifies masculinity. For men who would like to grow a beard, but are unhappy with the density and distribution of their facial hair, don’t lose hope. A transplant can help achieve a fuller more even look, removing any patchy areas and creating more density. It can also have a significant positive impact on people with facial scarring and other skin damage; as implanted follicles will take root in damaged skin, effectively hiding scars that the person may be conscious of. With hair transplant at an all-time high, the latest medical technologies are in hand to preform to best and most natural results.

Just like the classic hair transplant – beard transplant is done using FUE technique. The hairs are extracted from the backside of the head and are implanted into desired area.

The donor area would be shaved and anesthetized before extraction. The hairs are harvested using manual punch technique or with the use of a micro motor.   After that, the recipient area will be also anesthetized and the channels would be opened using ether steel blade or sapphire blade. The grafts are then implanted into micro holes.

Note: In our clinic, we include one Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) session during the beard transplant operation. This will significantly influence the engraftment process ensuring the maximum regrowth result.

In just one session, up to 4.000 grafts can be implanted into the desired area, in case you would need more density we will divide the operation into two days. Our surgeon will design the best solution for you before the operation; you determine the outline of your future beard to your preference. We will ensure maximum density and natural result.

Beard transplant is capable of not only reversing autoimmune hair loss (patchy hair loss in an area that previously had full hair growth) but it also gives opportunity for those who genetically don’t have much or any facial hair to finally grow out their beards. The surgery leaves no linear scars after the operation and is completely painless

How does Beard Transplant Work?

Recovery Tips

Following the Beard Transplant surgery, you mustn’t shave your facial hair with a razor blade for at least 3 months, however shaving with clippers would be possible after 2 months and the hair can be cut with scissors 1 month after the operation.  Avoid activities that causes excessive sweating such as cardio exercise for at least one month. Steam rooms, saunas, and other similar activities should also be avoided. Do not drink any alcohol for at least 1 week after the operation to ensure quick healing. Be cautious, do not touch or comb any areas that received grafts, as they will be sensitive.

Beard Transplant Surgery is not recommended for patients with poor donor sites or who have hair loss as a result of medication intake, stress, or medical treatment as these can be reversed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hair transplantation is done on an outpatient basis and the operation usually consists of 4 to 8 hours. An inevitable part of the procedure is local anesthesia, used in order to prevent pain. However, our experienced nurses would reduce the pain as much as possible using ice as a tactic to numb the area first. Once the needle is inserted you may feel a slight discomfort for about 5 minutes. Once you get through the first faze it is over. 100% numb.
You can expect some minor discomfort after the procedure such as tenderness, redness, or mild pain to the scalp. But this process is pleasantly easier compared to some other surgical procedures. The level of pain to experience after the operation depends on many factors. Like whether or not you are taking the prescribed pain medications given to you by your doctor. Also depending on your physical tolerance related to pain and discomfort. In general, if you take your prescribed painkillers then you are good to go and can return to your everyday life. You will receive post-procedure instructions for the first few weeks of healing to help minimize any discomfort following the hair transplant procedure.

In determining the success rate of hair transplants, it is important to take into account the client’s satisfaction with the procedure as well as the total percentage of the transplanted follicles that were successfully harvested from the donor site and transplanted to the recipient site. Using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy with FUE increases the success of FUE hair transplants. Your hair will begin to grow 3 to 4 months after the operation, and final results up to 1 year. With an experienced surgeon and ideal candidacy, the survival rate could reach up to 95%.

Hair transplantation operation can only be done under the supervision of a doctor. Since hair transplantation is a long treatment which has more than one phase such as anesthesia, implantation preparation, channel opening, implantation, etc, the doctor constantly checks the hair transplant technicians and participates in the operations if it is needed.

Yes, a Hair transplant will change your look completely. The good news is state-of-the-art techniques that have been developed over the years which help to enhance the field hair restoration with new extraordinary levels. With the skill and experience of your hair transplant surgeon, combined with some of the latest technologies, the results of hair restoration surgery can look so natural that it may exceed your level of expectations.

Although most hair transplant procedures harvest donor hairs from the scalp, an increasing number of patients are relying on the use of body hairs to contribute additional grafts beyond what the scalp can provide. The best areas for these donor hairs are the beard followed by the chest and back.

Unlike organ transplants, you are your own donor for a hair transplant. The roots of your hair have live cells and just like all your other cells, you have your own unique genetic code embedded in them. If your body comes across someone else’s genetic code through transplanted hairs, it would cause an intense immune reaction and your body would reject them. You donate your hair from your own donor area.

It’s normal for the transplanted hair to fall out two to three weeks after the procedure. This makes way for new hair growth. Most people will see some amount of new hair growth 3 to 4 months after surgery and final results within 8 months to a year. When performing the hair transplant operation, your surgeon will make sure to extract and implant hair follicles from your donor area that are not affected by hormones which causes makes them fall out.
